The NCAA’s bid to overturn an injunction allowing Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia to play was thrown out by an appeals court, which reasoned that the organization’s separate waiver allowing him to play made the appeal moot.
The NCAA gave Pavia “exactly what he wanted—a waiver that guaranteed he could play for Vanderbilt this year,” Judge Amul R. Thapar said Wednesday for the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
“Because that waiver provides Pavia complete relief at the preliminary injunction stage, we dismiss the NCAA’s appeal as moot,” the court said.
