Morrison Offers to Sell Stores to Avoid McColl’s Deal Probe (1)

WM Morrison Supermarkets has offered to sell some convenience stores to avoid an in-depth antitrust investigation over its purchase of store-chain McColl’s Retail Group Plc.

The Competition and Markets Authority said in a statement Friday it was considering remedies offered by the supermarket chain, which included divesting convenience stores. It said it had “reasonable grounds” to believe the undertakings could be accepted.

The agency had previously said it found concerns in 35 local areas where the two companies compete, but it concluded that overall the deal would not harm the majority of consumers or businesses.
