Mexico Antitrust Regulator Investigates Freight Rail Transport

Mexico’s antitrust regulator Cofece started an investigation for possible monopoly practices in the freight rail transport market, according to a decision published Wednesday in the Diario Oficial de la Federacion.

  • The investigation seeks to determine the possible existence of barriers to free competition or possible anticompetitive effects
  • NOTE: Although the decision doesn’t mention companies by name, the market is led by Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and Grupo Mexico’s transport unit
