The European Commission cleared the acquisition of Montupet S.A. of France by Linamar Corp. of Canada Dec. 11.
Linamar manufactures precision automotive components, assemblies and castings for the automotive industry and supplies parts to the defense and aerospace industries. Montupet designs and produces highly-stressed cast aluminum components primarily for the automotive industry. The commission’s normal merger review showed that numerous other suppliers would continue to serve both the market for machining of automotive components and the market for aluminium cylinder heads after the proposed combination.
Thus, the transaction isn’t expected to raise anticompetitive concerns.
