Japan Plans Monopoly Rules Targeting Apple, Google, Nikkei Says

Japan is drafting a new anti-monopoly law that seeks to rein in Apple Inc. andAlphabet Inc.’s control over app stores and payments, joining a global crackdown on Big Tech, the Nikkei daily said.

The government will submit a draft law to the Diet by the end of next year, allowing the country’s Fair Trade Commission to fine companies for violations, the paper said Tuesday without attribution. Fines under the country’s anti-monopoly law are usually around 6% of revenue generated by violations, it said.
