Google Opposes Trial by Jury in States’ Ad Tech Antitrust Suit

Alphabet Inc.’s Google is pushing for a bench trial instead of a jury in a group of states’ antitrust lawsuit alleging the company has a monopoly over advertising technology.

The Seventh Amendment right to a jury trial doesn’t apply to the states’ antitrust claims or the allegations brought under their deceptive trade practices acts, Google said in a Sunday motion in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

It is also asking the court to quash the states’ demand for a jury to weigh in on potential civil penalties.
