Goldman Sachs Wins Dismissal of Most Claims in Aluminum Suit

U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer on Wednesday threw out most of the claims in a lawsuit alleging a conspiracy among aluminum traders, warehouse companies and the London Metal Exchange to drive up prices from 2009 to 2012

  • Defendants included traders on the London Metals Exchange and owners of LME-certified aluminum warehouses, including Goldman Sachs Group Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Glencore Ltd.
  • Aluminum buyers claimed the defendants conspired to manipulate regional premiums that are a component of the price of aluminum purchased from smelters
