Gold Medalists Win Appeal in Competitive Swimming Antitrust Suit

Two Olympic gold medalists won their appeal Tuesday in a lawsuit challenging an organization’s control over international swimming competitions, as the Ninth Circuit reversed a lower court’s decision to end the case and deny class certification.

The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit held that a district court was wrong to conclude that the robust “rule of reason” analysis applied to the case, because courts lack experience with the rules of a governing body for international and Olympic sports.
