Georgetown University, Cornell University, and three other elite colleges are seeking discovery into claims of misconduct by plaintiffs’ counsel in an antitrust case accusing the schools of reducing financial aid packages and steering admissions toward wealthy students.
The schools on Tuesday filed a motion in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois to get more information on “plaintiffs’ counsel’s billing records and whether counsel, by inflating their bills and using them as a basis for supporting a large percentage fee award, has put counsel’s interests ahead of the interests of the class.”
