FTC Colluded With EU to Veto Illumina-Grail Deal, Lawmaker Says

A top House Republican demanded records of communication between US and European regulators after both blocked Illumina Inc.’s $7 billion acquisition of cancer-test provider Grail, citing concerns the combination would hurt competition.

In a letter Monday to US Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer of Kentucky claimed the agency “colluded” with the European Union to veto a deal that “seeks to make groundbreaking cancer-screening tests available to patients more quickly.” Comer said emails between the FTC and EU “deserve further scrutiny.”
