Flooring Executive Indicted for Paying Kickbacks to Manufacturer

The former president of a Chicago-based flooring company was indicted for allegedly authorizing kickbacks in exchange for lower prices on materials, the Justice Department announced.

Michael Zmijewski, the former head of Mr. David’s Flooring International LLC, allegedly concealed payments Mr. David’s made to Carter Brett, an account executive at a large flooring manufacturer, the DOJ said in a statement Wednesday.

Mr. David’s sent the payments to a shell corporation that Brett set up for the sole purpose of receiving the kickbacks, the agency said. The scheme allegedly took place between 2013 and 2018.
