Expedia Fails to Dismiss Antitrust Suit Brought by Swiss Competitor

Expedia Group Inc. will confront an antitrust suit alleging it sought to monopolize the online hotel booking market after a federal judge denied the company’s motion to dismiss the case.

Judge Barbara Rothstein of the US District Court for the Western District of Washington said in a Thursday ruling that Swiss hotel booking firm Amoma sufficiently alleged claims that Expedia violated Section 2 of the Sherman Act, which prohibits attempts to monopolize. Expedia was accused of using its Trivago subsidiary to run Amoma out of business.
