Silicon Valley Gets Envoy From EU Seeking ‘Positive’ Tech Ties

The European Union’s new representative in Silicon Valley said he wants to avoid a “tense” relationship with big technology companies as the bloc’s landmark rules to rein in the sector go into effect.

Gerard de Graaf, a European Commission official currently working in the EU’s digital department, will soon move to San Francisco to open an EU office for a new digital diplomacy push. The office will open on Sept. 1.
