EU’s Ribera Weighs ‘Serious’ Google Offer in Ad Tech Probe

Teresa Ribera, the European Union’s competition chief, said regulators are examining a “serious” offer from Google to fix alleged antitrust violations linked to its ad tech business that sparked a fine of nearly €3 billion ($3.5 billion).

Speaking to reporters in Brussels on Tuesday, Ribera tentatively welcomed Google’s recent proposals even though they fall short of a partial investment previously favored by watchdogs.

“The good thing I could say is that they were a little bit more serious when trying to provide changes and proposals,”she said, referring to the Alphabet Inc. unit.
