EU to Tap Former Obama Enforcer as Top Antitrust Economist

The European Commission is poised to name former Obama administration antitrust enforcer Fiona Scott Mortonas its next top competition economist, according to three people familiar with the appointment.

The Yale University academic would replace Pierre Régibeau, who’s held the role since September 2019, said the people, who asked not to be named because the process isn’t public.

Scott Morton served as the top antitrust economist at the Justice Department during Barack Obama’s presidency and founded the Thurman Arnold Project at Yale focused on research into competition policy. She also worked as an economic consultant at CRA International Inc. ...
