Egg Producers, Trade Groups Denied Judgment in Conspiracy Case

A federal judge rejected legal attacks on a jury verdict against egg producers and promoters in a long-standing price-fixing conspiracy case, concluding that food producer plaintiffs presented sufficient evidence to show antitrust injury.

Judge Steven C. Seeger of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois on Monday denied motions for judgment as a matter of law brought by producers Cal-Maine Foods Inc. and Rose Acre Farms Inc. along with two egg industry trade groups, United Egg Producers and US Egg Marketers.
