Walt Disney Co. will sell some factual channels in Europe to win European Union approval for its purchase of entertainment assets from 21st Century Fox Inc., the EU said in a statement.
Disney has pledged to sell the History channel and others operated by its A&E Television Networks joint venture with Hearst in Europe. This sale removes the only problematic overlap identified by EU merger regulators who saw no issues with movie or TV licensing or movie distribution due to strong rivalry from other Hollywood studios.
