A federal judge denied class certification to thousands of dental providers in a suit accusing Delta Dental Plans Association and its affiliates of monopolizing the market for dental products and services by carving it into regional territories.
Judge Elaine E. Bucklo of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in a Monday opinion rejected the plaintiffs’ proposed nationwide market definition and said they failed to demonstrate antitrust impact.
The ruling means the case can’t proceed on behalf of a proposed nationwide class of the roughly 240,000 dental providers who participated in Delta Dental’s networks.
