Cuban Wrestler Suing NCAA Can’t Compete Next Season, Judge Says

The NCAA convinced a federal court to deny an attempt by a Cuban wrestler to compete in the 2026-27 Division I wrestling season at Iowa State University, a victory for the sports organization as it fights a barrage of similar cases.

Plaintiff Reineri Andreu Ortega didn’t show a likelihood of success in showing the NCAA’s “five-year” rule violates antitrust law, Judge Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger of the US District Court for the Southern District of Iowa said in a Thursday opinion denying a preliminary injunction.
