Credit Reporting Companies Face Antitrust Suit Over Medical Debt

The three biggest credit reporting companies in the US are getting sued on antitrust grounds over refusing to include unpaid medical bills under $500 on consumer credit reports.

Plaintiff Derrick Adams, a doctor with a medical practice in Lincoln, Calif., alleges in a proposed class action that Equifax Inc., Experian Plc, and TransUnion engaged in an unlawful agreement to devalue credit reports, creating hardship for providers seeking to collect payment on unpaid medical bills.
