Southwire Co. sued Copperweld Bimetallics LLC in a federal court in Georgia, seeking to head off antitrust litigation over an alleged scheme to keep certain Copperweld wiring out of a model electric code used nationwide.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday, seeks a court order declaring Southwire didn’t participate in “an amorphous conspiracy” to convince a standards-setting body that Copperweld’s 14-gauge copper-clad aluminum wiring poses a potential fire hazard.
Copperweld, which plans to sue Southwire as soon as Aug. 22, “is trying to use antitrust law to force the adoption of 14-gauge CCA” despite legitimate safety concerns, according to the complaint filed ...
