Chemours Escapes Claims It Monopolizes HVAC Refrigerant Market

Chemours Co. convinced a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit alleging the chemicals maker monopolized the supply of a key refrigerant used in air conditioning and heat pumps for new equipment.

FluoroFusion Specialty Chemicals Inc. and Dynatemp International failed to state a claim for attempted monopolization of the R-454B lower-emissions refrigerant, Judge Terrence W. Boyle of the US District Court for Eastern District of North Carolina said Feb. 20.

Chemours is a main supplier of R-454B, which many manufacturers have adopted as the standard refrigerant for their new residential and light commercial systems.
