Casino, Intermarche Fend Off EU Antitrust Probe After Court Win

A probe into alleged collusion by French supermarket chains Casino Guichard Perrachon SA and rival Intermarche was abandoned by European Union regulators, weeks after the companies won a key ruling on the case at the bloc’s top court.

The European Commission said on Monday it’s decided to close the investigation after the EU Court of Justice nullified the commission’s 2017 antitrust raids on the supermarkets’ premises for procedural reasons.

The court ruled that officials should have “recorded the interviews it conducted with suppliers” of the chains to be able to use them as proof of wrongdoing.
