Capacitor Antitrust Case Yields $66 Million More in Legal Fees

Antitrust attorneys who extracted settlements worth $605 million from capacitor manufacturers they accused of price fixing are walking away with a $136 million payday.

Judge James Donato—who previously handed $70 million in legal fees to lawyers for the electronics purchasers leading the case—signed off Monday on their request for an additional $66 million. Joseph Saveri Law Firm LLP served as lead class counsel for the direct purchasers.

Donato, writing for the US District Court for the Northern District of California, said the total amount of fees—equaling 31% of the settlements—were “well within the range” of reasonableness. That’s especially true given ...
