Brazil’s Cade Investigates Anti-Uber Movement

In the face of organized opposition to the Uber app, Brazil’s antitrust agency Cade on Nov. 20 announced that it’s investigating what it considers to be illegal actions to impede competition taken by Uber opponents.

Groups representing taxi drivers and taxi companies have pressured local governments to ban Uber and declare its service illegal. They have conducted mass protests, which resulted in thousands of taxi drivers stopping traffic in Brazil’s three largest cities and the capital of Brasilia Nov. 11.
