Brazil Politics: Lula Defends Sovereignty and Slams Bolsonaro

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s government had already been informed about the possibility of new sanctions from the U.S. related to the investigation into forced labor, according to O Globo.

A new 12.5% tariff was announced one day after a proposed 25% tariff on Brazilian products due to alleged unfair trade practices. The guidance from the Presidential Palace is for ministers and aides to maintain a stance in defense of Brazil’s sovereignty in response to accusations made by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the newspaper said, without citing how it obtained the information.
