Brazil’s antitrust agency on has signed settlements with Samsung and LG to end a case brought against them for the formation of a cartel for the sale of LCD panels.
This was the Brazilian extension of the so-called “crystal meetings” case originally filed in the U.S. and Europe against electronics companies from Japan, South Korea and Taiwan over a price fixing scheme between 1998 and 2006.
In the accord reached with Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) on Aug. 21, Samsung and LG agreed to pay fines totaling $19 million. Another 15 companies are still being investigated.
