Booksellers Group Loses Motion to Intervene in FTC’s Amazon Case

The American Booksellers Association was denied a bid to intervene in the Federal Trade Commission’s antitrust case against Amazon.com Inc. that alleges the tech giant is a monopolist.

Judge John H. Chun of the US District Court for the Western District of Washington on Monday rejected the association’s request, siding with Amazon’s reasoning that the motion should be denied, and the FTC’s argument that the group’s proposed intervention would bring in new issues and claims that essentially create a whole new suit.
