Birdsong Corp. Reaches Tentative Peanut Price-Fixing Settlement

Birdsong Corp. reached a settlement in principle of price-fixing claims in Virginia federal court, a week after another top U.S. peanut sheller said it would pay nearly $8 million to resolve allegations they colluded with Archer Daniels Midland Co. to drive down the amount they pay farmers for unprocessed nuts.

The joint filing disclosing the tentative agreement, docketed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, doesn’t specify its terms. A motion for preliminary court approval of the deal is in the works, the filing says.
