Biden to Renew .Com Contract With Verisign Amid Pricing Scrutiny

The Biden administration is extending an agreement with Verisign Inc. governing its operations of the .com domain registry, as progressive groups and Republican lawmakers raise questions about the firm’s pricing strategies.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration, which represents the US government on matters linked to the internet domain name system, informed Verisign on Aug. 2 that it intends to renew their cooperative agreement on the management of the .com registry, according to a letter NTIA shared Monday.

The contract, designed to manage certain Domain Name System responsibilities, automatically renews for six-year terms unless NTIA informs Verisign of nonrenewal. The ...
