Automotive Lift Trade Group, Members Hit With Pay-to-Play Suit

A group that set industry standards for auto lifts was sued by a Texas business, alleging that the group and its members mislead consumers and government agencies about safety and reliability.

Automotive Lift Institute Inc.'s accreditation process for certifying lifts has “devolved into a simple pay-to-play scheme where lifts that clearly fail to meet the Institute’s published standards are nonetheless ‘certified,’” according to National Auto Tools Inc., an auto lift manufacturer that sued Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
