NCAA, Athletes Seek Approval of Player-Payment Settlement (1)

Attorneys for athlete plaintiffs filed for preliminary approval of a $2.8 billion landmark settlement with the NCAA and its Power Five conferences, with an average payout for athletes that highlights a gender disparity.

Under the deal, a football or men’s basketball player would get roughly $135,000, while the average recovery for a women’s basketball player would be approximately $35,000.

The proposed settlement and request for approval were filed Friday in US District Court for the District of Northern California.
