Argentina Says Disney Must Disinvest to Maintain Competition

Argentina’s Commission for the Defense of Competition ruled that The Walt Disney Co. must disinvest locally following the purchase of 21st Century Fox.

  • The commission ruled the purchase restricts competition and that Disney must transfer to a competitor the rights related to sporting events transmissions that Fox had at the moment of the deal
    • That includes “core content” in events including Copa CONMEBOL Libertadores de America, UEFA Champions League, NFL, MLB, Formula 1, UFC, WWE, World Rugby Sevens among others
    • Disney must transmit these events for free until it disinvests from the rights, and has as much as a year ...
