ArcelorMittal’s Win on Steel Antitrust Case Affirmed on Appeal

ArcelorMittal USA Inc. won dismissal of a long-running suit alleging that it led a cartel to boost prices for the steel used in thousands of consumer products such as washing machines and cars.

The plaintiffs’ revisions to their complaint are so radical that they can’t legally relate back to prior complaints, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit said in a Sept. 6 opinion. Being a brand-new, different complaint means it is filed too late to bring viable claims about steel prices in 2005, the court said.
