Apple Watch EKG Monopoly Scheme Put Lives at Risk, AliveCor Says

Apple Inc. was hit with federal antitrust claims in San Francisco over its alleged scheme to corner the market for for wearable EKG technology, even if it meant endangering the lives of its own Apple Watch customers, “all for an incremental value gain for an already-two-trillion-dollar company.”

The value of the “critical health data” recorded by heartrate apps, and the “ability to exploit it,” were “apparently too much of a temptation for Apple,” the complaint says. “As it has done multiple times over the years in other markets, Apple decided that it would not accept competition on the merits.”
