Apple Sued by Developer Over App Store Monopolization Claims

App developer PhantomALERT is accusing Apple Inc. of violating antitrust law with its App Store practices, marking the latest case to challenge the tech giant’s control over its app ecosystem.

The complaint, filed on Monday in US District Court for the District of Columbia, accuses Apple of using monopolistic tactics to prevent the developer from placing a Covid-19 tracking app on the App Store. PhantomALERT in 2020 had attempted to retool its crowdsourced app for avoiding traffic tickets to instead track the global spread of the pandemic.
