Antarctica Tour Industry Group Hit With Antitrust Lawsuit

The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators is facing an antitrust suit from a Canadian business owner who claims the industry group excluded his charter company from membership and contributed to lost revenue.

Andrew Prossin claimed in his lawsuit, filed Wednesday, that the association and some of its members violated Section 1 of the Sherman Act by engaging in a group boycott to deny the application filed by his company, Expedition Experience. The IAATO, based in Rhode Island, says in its website that it promotes “safe and environmentally responsible private sector travel to Antarctica.”
