Amazon, Publishers Win Dismissal of Bookstore Price-Fixing Suit

Amazon.com Inc. and the five largest book publishers in the US have prevailed in an antitrust suit that accused the defendants of conspiring to raise the price of print books.

Judge Gregory Woods of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York on Aug. 25 tossed the case against the e-commerce giant, HarperCollins Publishers LLC, and Simon & Schuster Inc., among others. In his ruling, Woods accepted a magistrate judge’s recommendation to grant the defendants’ motions to dismiss the case.
