California’s antitrust laws would be expanded to cover algorithms that businesses use to set prices under legislation the California Legislature cleared on Friday.
The state Assembly approved the bill (AB 325) that would make it illegal for a business to “coerce” another company to set prices for similar products based on recommendations from an algorithm.
The bill’s author, Assembly Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar Curry (D), said she revised the measure to ensure it isn’t overly broad to affect typical business practices.
