Aldi Gets French Agency’s Backing to Buy 554 Leader Price Stores

French Competition Authority also approves Aldi acquisition of two Casino stores.

  • Regulator adds in Tuesday statement that, in 9 areas where competition concerns were identified, Aldi has agreed to sell 9 stores
  • Overall, Autorité de la Concurrence says that deal wasn’t likely to significantly strengthen acquirer’s purchasing power vis-a-vis suppliers given Aldi’s and Leader Price’s combined low market share of national supply market
  • NOTE: Groupe Casino owns Leader Price brand
