Agri Stats Hit With DOJ Lawsuit Over Info-Sharing Scheme (1)

The Justice Department filed a civil antitrust lawsuit against Agri Stats Inc., a meat industry data company, alleging it illegally organized and managed the sharing of competitively sensitive information that enabled broiler chicken, turkey, and pork producers to coordinate pricing.

The lawsuit, filed Thursday in the US District Court for the District of Minnesota, follows years of private litigation and government scrutiny over alleged price-fixing schemes throughout the meatpacking industry. Agri Stats, once a subsidiary of Eli Lilly & Co., has played a central role in the allegations.
