ADM Unit’s $45 Million Peanut Cartel Settlement Gets Early Nod

The farmers leading a peanut price-fixing class action against the country’s top shelling companies won preliminary approval from a federal judge in Virginia for a $45 million settlement with an Archer Daniels Midland Co. subsidiary that would bring the case to a conclusion.

Judge Raymond A. Jackson gave the agreement with Golden Peanut Co. his tentative blessing April 23, about three weeks after approving deals worth $58 million resolving claims in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia against Birdsong Corp. and an Olam International Ltd. unit.
