EU Proposes Sharing Value-Added Tax Data With Anti-Fraud Bodies

The European Commission on Friday proposed to allow EU countries to share value-added tax information with the bloc’s anti-fraud agencies.

The proposal would allow the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and the European Anti-Fraud Office immediate access to VAT data.

“By equipping these agencies with timely and comprehensive insights, fraudulent activities can be quickly identified, stopped, and prosecuted,” a commission release said.

The proposal would amend the EU’s comprehensive rules on tax data sharing between the bloc’s countries to include the agencies. EU tax legislation requires unanimity between its 27 countries for approval, including Friday’s proposed amendment.
