AI and Tax Authorities: Balancing Innovation and Oversight

The use of AI by national and international tax authorities continues to develop at a rapid pace: helping to deliver more sophisticated levels of support, conduct more efficient and better targeted audits, detect anomalies, ensure better tax compliance, and ultimately, combat tax evasion. According to a briefing published by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) last year, 65% of tax authorities in countries around the world already use AI, while over half of all global tax agencies use AI for risk assessment.
