Judge Hints at Unblocking Trump DEI Executive Order at Argument

A Chicago federal judge said Thursday he was having second thoughts about whether he should have prohibited the Department of Labor from enforcing part of a Trump executive order targeting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Judge Matthew Kennelly last month granted a Chicago group’s request to temporarily ban the department from taking action against them related to an order that directs agencies to terminate “equity-related” grants “to the maximum extent allowed by law.”

But during arguments on a preliminary injunction that could extend that ban, Kennelly indicated he might reconsider.
