Merz to Demand Tariff Clarity From Trump During Visit to DC (1)

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will seek clarity on US tariff policy for European Union goods during his talks with President Donald Trump in Washington next Tuesday.

A European Union assessment found that Trump’s new tariff policy will increase levies on some of the bloc’s exports, including cheese and some agricultural products, above the level permitted in the EU-US trade pact.

After the US Supreme Court struck down Trump’s use of emergency powers to impose tariffs, he announced a new 10% global levy, then threatened to increase it to 15%.
