White House Requests $2.2b for Domestic Uranium Enrichment

The White House is seeking $2.2 billion for domestic uranium enrichment capabilities, according to a summary of the nearly $56 billion funding request made to Congress Wednesday.

  • Funding is for highly-enriched uranium, needed for a new breed of advanced reactors, as well as low-enriched uranium, which is used as fuel by traditional nuclear plants
  • White House funding request also includes $300 million in funding for improvements to US Strategic Petroleum Reserve
