Trump Approves NextEra Gas Expansion to Meet Rising Power Demand

NextEra Energy Inc. plans to build up to 10 gigawatts of natural gas-fired generation in Texas and Pennsylvania to meet soaring demand driven in part by the data center boom.

The company said in a statement Friday that President Donald Trump approved the initiative, which is potentially equivalent to the output of 10 nuclear reactors. The announcement comes as Republicans seek to address rising power costs ahead of the fall midterm elections.
