State Job Safety Action Imperiled by Shutdown: States of Play

STATES WILL CUT WORKPLACE SAFETY inspections if the federal government shutdown continues, legal observers and one state agency said.

  • Since September, states haven’t received money from the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which normally provides up to 50% of funding to each of 29 state and territorial workplace safety programs. The halt has prompted North Carolina to warn recently it could soon reduce safety inspections in the state.
