Oregon Voters Repeal Gas Tax Increase
Voters in Oregon — where the average price of a gallon a gas is about 80 cents above the national average — repealed a 6-cent boost in the state’s gas tax by an overwhelming margin, Daniel Moore reports.
The 83%-17% rejection of an increase enacted last year comes as fuel prices have spiked because of the Iran war. The increase would have raised the tax to 46 cents a gallon in a state where the average fuel price today is about $5.35 a gallon, according to AAA.
